An infusion pump system for dispensing a drug to a patient in accordance with a predetermined therapeutic modality, said system including a drug delivering member 24 controlled by a microprocessor 34 and replaceable memory modules 38 coupled to said microprocessor 34 for configuring specific pump user interface and other characteristics required for differing therapeutic modalities. Information specific to a particular patient is entered through input features 42, 46 on the pump.
