german software patent law practitioner and leading pro swpat lobbyist applauds the paper in the name of the German Chamber of Patent Lawyers. Says inter alia: any new idea that is implemented on a computer, including business methods, must be patentable. The publication of programs on the Net must be considered a direct patent infringement. Linus Torvalds himself has acknowledged that Linux is in no way innovative. Opensource software is unimportant. The patent system has been beneficial in all areas, and patentless areas such as software have always suffered from too much secrecy and too little innovation.
