WIPO and UN negotiation rounds of patent lawyers

WIPO has a special project of activities on "IPR and SMEs" which is mainly concerned aboutpromoting the patent system among small and medium enterprises. WIPO has published documents that promote software patents claiming that they help spur innovation and economic growth. Upon demand for explanations, no supporting references to economic studies were given. FFII is accredited as an observer at WIPO.

The WIPO has got it trough that April 26th will be celebrateted under the hood of the United Nations as the "day of intellectual property". With the myth of "intellectual property" the WIPO supports attempts from the beginning to unchain the patent law from its social-economic justification and form it into a self purpose.

L’Accord sur les ADPIC et les brevets logiciels: The WTO bound TRIPs treaty of 1993 requests patentability on "all areas on the field of technology" and a world wide obligatory minimum patent duration of 20 years. Newer WIPO treaty drafts like the SPLT do leave out the as a limit interpreteable word "technology" and do request unlimited patentability in conjunction with a request for a strong limit on the reasonalbe requirements on the quality of a patents.
